Tarrants granted "quickie" divorce
Published Wednesday, Feb 7 2007, 14:43 GMT | By David Cribb
Chris Tarrant and wife Ingrid were today granted a divorce by the High Court.
The couple split last September, after the TV presenter was caught having an affair with teacher Fiona McKechnie. The divorce was one of 33 cases brought before the court today for a "quickie" divorce (a "decree nisi"), which means the marriage is legally over. However, neither may remarry until a decree absolute has been granted.
Tarrant did not contest his wife's settlement claims, admitting he did not want to put his family through any more trouble. The settlement is thought to be worth around £17million - half of the presenter's fortune.
