Pippa Middleton has described the attention she has received over her bottom as "startling".

The younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge has spoken about fame in her new party-planning book, the Daily Mail reports.

Extracts from Middleton's new book Celebrate: A Year of British Festivities for Families And Friends have been previewed in the newspaper's You magazine.

Middleton admitted: "It is a bit startling to achieve global recognition before the age of 30 on account of your sister, your brother-in-law and your bottom.

"One day I might be able to make sense of this. In the meantime I think it's fair to say that it has its upside and its downside."

Middleton has rarely been out of the spotlight since the wedding of Prince William and sister Kate Middleton last year.

She added: "I certainly have opportunities many can only dream of - but in most ways, I'm a typical girl in her 20s trying to forge a career and represent herself in what can sometimes seem rather strange circumstances.

"I am by nature an optimist, so I tend to concentrate on the advantages."

She revealed that one of the biggest advantages of her fame has been the chance to publish her new book.

The 29-year-old admits in the book, released at the end of October, that many will read it out of "nothing more than curiosity".

Pippa Middleton recently came fourth in a poll of men's perfect dates.
