Matthew Fox on 'Alex Cross' weight loss: "I f**king hated it"

By
Matthew Fox has said it was a struggle losing weight for his role in Alex Cross, admitting that sometimes he "f**king hated it".

The Lost star plays a cage-fighting serial killer in the movie, and lost an astonishing 44lbs to achieve the wiry look required for the role.

Fox told Men's Health about the intense diet and training regime he undertook for the part, including a strict diet of chicken breasts, steamed broccoli and protein shakes.

In describing the physical effect he was hoping to achieve, the 46-year-old said: "When I read the part, it felt immediately that my character [serial killer Picasso] is burning energy on almost a hyper level.

"Without needing to spend any time in the gym he would just look like that... almost disturbingly vascular and tendony, and f**king just... weird. That would come from an enormous amount of energy burning inside this guy."

He then admitted that the regime had proved testing, saying: "If I'm honest, sometimes I f**king hated it. I guess if you removed the 'result' part of it then I can't say I enjoyed it."

However, he claimed that seeing pictures of himself in the press made the effort all worth it: "I opened it up and was like, 'Holy s**t'. I could hardly even believe it was me. But it was exactly what I wanted to look like."

Fox has previously claimed that Lost fans "might not be happy" with his performance in Alex Cross if they go in expecting to see Jack Shephard.

The movie is now playing in the US and is released on November 30 in the UK.
