The star - who has been in the media spotlight recently following a string of alleged traffic offences - told Us Weekly that she will take legal action against the magazine.
In Touch Weekly had claimed that Bynes was seen "completely naked" at a New York tanning salon and quoted a source as saying that there was "definitely something wrong with her".
However, Bynes - who announced her retirement from acting in 2010 - insisted that the allegations are untrue.
"I'm suing In Touch for printing a fake story," she said. "I'm not 'troubled'. I don't get naked in public. I'm 26, a multi-millionaire, retired. Please respect my privacy."
Bynes reportedly moved to New York in September in an attempt to get away from the paparazzi.
