The This Morning host had been tweeting his fans from Peru, where he is on holiday.
Schofield sampled guinea pig over the weekend, which is a major part of the diet in Peru. It is also eaten in some other South American countries such as Bolivia.
A number of Schofield's followers started criticising him over his choice of lunch, after he began uploading photos and updates of his meal with warnings about the content.

One fan asked the presenter: "How could you? They are little pets, not dinner."
Schofield responded: "Not in Peru!"
When asked whether he would eat a dog or cat while visiting China, he added: "Why not? I like to try what the locals eat. #bloodyhatefoodnazis."
He also revealed that he had tried alpaca meat while in the country, writing that it was "gorgeous [and] v. low [in] cholesterol".
Schofield has been on a trekking holiday with his wife Stephanie Lowe, and will return to This Morning on Tuesday (November 6).
He was recently voted the 'sexiest silver fox' ahead of George Clooney in a poll.
