A cloak warn by Sir Alec Guinness in Star Wars has sold for £54,000 at auction.

The brown robe beat its estimate of £40,000 in a sale of clothing from cinema and television. It went missing for 30 years and was used in other films, and even hired out as fancy dress, until two years ago when its value was realised.

A Doctor Who costume worn by Tom Baker fetched £24,600 - 12 times its estimate - while the Batman and Robin costumes worn by Del Boy and Rodney in Only Fools and Horses made £10,200.

The sale was held at Bonhams auction house in London, where buyers were allowed to try items on before bidding.
