Beyoncé and Jay-Z chat with Barack Obama

Beyoncé has long been a supporter of Obama and in September hosted a fundraiser for his campaign alongside Jay-Z, raising $4 million.

While Jay-Z performed a special version of his hit '99 Problems' at Obama's final campaign rally on Monday, Beyoncé penned an open letter to the President thanking him for "inspiring" people.

"You are the leader to take us from where we are to where we need to be," she said. "You are the reason my daughter and nephew will grow up knowing that they can truly be ANYTHING they want to be."

A number of celebrities have celebrated the election result on social media, with stars including Whoopi Goldberg, Eva Longoria, Mariah Carey, Lady GaGa, Ricky Martin and Ian Somerhalder among those congratulating Obama on his success.
