Peaches Geldof reveals teenage miscarriage: 'I carried such sadness'

By
Peaches Geldof has opened up about suffering a miscarriage in her teens after falling pregnant with the baby doctors told her she would never have.

The 23-year-old, who welcomed son Astala with husband Thomas Cohen in April, revealed that she was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries at 17, and then saw her miracle pregnancy end in tragedy.

"I was really upset because I always knew I wanted kids and then I was told I would need major intervention if that was to happen," she told Elle.

"I woke up in the night in the worst pain. It was like something was ripping me apart. I had no idea I was pregnant.

She continued: "I was taken to hospital and they discovered what it was. I was told if I had left it even three more days I would have died."

Geldof recalled being told after an operation that her fallopian tube was "badly damaged" and her chances of having a child "had gone from slim to almost non-existent".

''Afterwards, I suffered from post-traumatic stress," she stated. "My relationship ended because of it and for me it was just more sadness to carry."

Geldof previously spoke of the "terrifying experience" when Astala was rushed to intensive care with breathing problems immediately after being born.

The daughter of Bob Geldof said at her wedding to Cohen in September that she was pleased to give Astala an "old-fashioned" family.
