The former Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ attempted to rile up Mirror journalist Andy Dawson on Twitter following his 1/5 star review of The Difficult Second Album.
"Andy Dawson in The Mirror. Hey Andy, I really bug you don't I," he tweeted. "You HATE my success so much. Really hate it. Thanks. Makes me want more.."
Dawson said in his review that Moyles releasing The Difficult Second Album post-Radio 1 was "like a condemned man gobbing on the shoes of his executioner before his head is lopped off", and suggested it would be the "perfect secret Santa gift for... feckless b**tards".
He continued: "Ultimately, it's another slab of creaking, sweating 'look at me' tripe from a man who ran out of ideas about a decade ago and has been getting by solely by bigging himself up so hard that his slack-minded audience were too bewildered to question it all.
"It's reminiscent of the kind of cult of personality that can trigger mass suicides in compounds in the American desert with someone truly evil at the helm. Fortunately for all of us, Moyles is not evil. We should probably be grateful - but you know, it's hard."
After Moyles's outburst, Dawson took to his own Twitter profile with a comeback drawing attention to some of the more questionable moments from his Radio 1 career.
"It's just a bit of fun, like when you offered to lead Charlotte Church 'through the forest of her sexuality' on her 16th," he wrote. "Or like when you reportedly said 'Yeah, I'm homophobic, I don't like the gays. Sorry, it just does my head in'.
"Or the time you called women who pee in the shower 'dirty wh*res'. It's just a laugh. #ofcom".
The writer then told Moyles that "having your Twitter name in capital letters marks you out as worse than Mugabe", before condemning the 38-year-old's upset fans for "sticking up for a millionaire".
Moyles's Difficult Second Album, which features appearances from the likes of Robbie Williams, Rizzle Kicks, Ed Sheeran and Gary Barlow, is at seven on the official midweek album chart.
