The supermodel has refused to speak to papers and magazines since she became famous at age 15 and has more recently been burned by the press when her drug use was uncovered.
Now she has spoken to Vogue, in an interview to be published next week, and covered topics including relationships, the paparazzi and her new Topshop fashion line.
She said she had learned to put up with the photographers but also revealed the police were considering using Asbos to stop them bothering her.
Of the clothes range, to be launched on May 1, she explained: "I'd talked to lots of people in the business about designing my own thing. Everyone said I should do something but I didn't want to be a designer designer and have to do shows and all of that. I've seen that stress.
"I kind of got bits from my closet. We started dragging things out I liked. We looked at stuff and I said, well, that if it was like this or that, and in this fabric or that? It's great. I can say I want this boot, with that heel. There are things I want that I can't find. Like anyone.
"I thought it should be a bit... edgy. Just because you're wearing a pretty dress it doesn't have to be all pretty-pretty. I'd just got this book of photographs about that club Studio 54, and I wanted it more like that."
