The 14-year-old actress was recently removed from her home and temporary guardianship was given to her sister Shanelle Gray following allegations that her mother Chrisoula Workman had been physically and emotionally abusive towards her.
The court documents from the October 3 proceedings containing further details of the case have now been obtained by E! Online.
The papers show that Gray and the lawyers involved in the case were concerned about transporting Winter to the courtroom without Workman realising, claiming that the studio was worried about "disturbing the set because of the volatility of the mother" and suggesting that she would have a "very violent reaction".
"She has been a terror on the set of Modern Family," Gray's attorney Michael Kretzmer said. "The producer and others there have expressed grave concern."
Kretzmer also revealed that Winter's on-set tutor had relayed "detailed horror stories" and claimed that she had said that "the mother deprives the child of food".
The lawyers also seemed to express concerns about the possibility of Workman taking Winter's Modern Family earnings, while Gray claimed that Winter had told "anybody that will listen" about the alleged abuse, adding: "My father won't help."
When Winter arrived at the courtroom, she was allowed to remain outside because of "her expressed and demonstrated nervousness and anxiety in regard to these proceedings".
However, Workman - who admitted that she was "distraught" and "shocked" when she was called to court - insisted that her daughter was making her "pay" for refusing to let her see her 18-year-old boyfriend, actor Cameron Palatas. The couple were recently reported to have split up.
"I caught my daughter with her boyfriend in bed - she's 14, he's 18 - and I threw him out and I broke them up," Workman said. "And ever since I did that I've paid."
Workman, who said things have been "hell" since Palatas began dating Winter, vowed to get a restraining order against him and suggested that her daughter is making up the allegations, saying: "She is an actress so I'm sure she can cry at the drop of a hat. And she is who she is and you can watch her movies and see it and - I'm saddened. I'm really saddened."
Workman also described herself as an "amazing mother" and accused Palatas's mother of "brainwashing" Winter, adding that she is worried that her daughter is being used by people.
"I know she's acting out," she said. "I'll take it. I don't care. I know she's hurt because I won't let her see him. I'll take it but I'm not going to lose her... This little girl is right now doing so well and so many people want her for the wrong reasons."
Workman also accused Gray of turning up following the success of Modern Family, saying that Winter's money needs to be "protected", but Gray insisted that she is only involved after Winter requested her help.
"I don't want control of the estate, any of that stuff," Gray said. "I'm only here for her safety because she's asked me to be here... I hope and pray from my past experience that my mother can get help and that this can be better."
Since the claims have emerged in the press, Workman has denied the allegations along with Winter's brother Jimmy Workman and her grandfather James Batistas. Winter has since returned to the Modern Family set.
