Craig observed training for the troops at the camp, prior to visiting wounded soldiers at the nearby Bastion Role 3 hospital.

He also attended a technical training session where servicemen and women were taught how to search for explosive devices.

Private Scott Craggs of England later told news services that Craig's visit to Afghanistan was a boost for those stationed at Camp Bastion.

"It was really good morale for everyone - it's a decent thing for him to take time to come out and visit everyone here," Pvt Craggs explained.

Camp Bastion is located northwest of Afghanistan's Helmand Province and holds more than 28,000 people.

Craig's visit to the war zone came just over a week after Skyfall topped the box offices in the US, the UK, Switzerland, Austria and many other countries.

Skyfall has made more than $600 million since its release in late October.
