The 18-year-old singer was the guest of honour during the halftime show at the 100th Grey Cup Championship yesterday (November 25) but faced a difficult crowd, Access Hollywood reports.
Bieber was reportedly booed when his face appeared on the screen, with further jeers when he was mentioned by a host.
The hostile reaction allegedly continued throughout Bieber's medley of 'Boyfriend' and 'Beauty and a Beat'.
However, Bieber reportedly ignored the crowd's boos during the performance, saying: "Thank you so much, Canada. I love you."
He did later address the reaction on his Twitter page, retweeting messages of support from fans and saying: "honoured to perform for my country. #ProudCanadian . Good luck in the second half. thanks."
He added: "never walk away from a challenge."
Carly Rae Jepsen reportedly also received a difficult response from the crowd but is said to have turned it around with her medley of 'This Kiss' and 'Call Me Maybe'.
Bieber was criticised over the weekend for meeting Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper in overalls, though he later explained that he had not had time to change.
