The French actor - who has starred in movies such as Green Card and Cyrano de Bergerac - fell from his scooter in Paris on Thursday afternoon (November 29), reports Reuters.
Depardieu received minor injuries to his elbow, and no-one else was hurt in the incident.
However, prosecutors in the city confirmed that the 63-year-old had been held for questioning.
An anonymous police source also told AFP that Depardieu had failed an alcohol test, registering a blood alcohol level of 1.8 grams per litre. The French drink-driving limit is 0.5 grams per litre.
Depardieu was accused of assault and battery earlier this year, after allegedly getting into an altercation with another road user following a road traffic accident.
