Richard Gere on meeting Robert Pattinson: 'I didn't know who he was'

Richard Gere has admitted that he recently had an awkward encounter with Robert Pattinson.

The Arbitrage star attended a Hollywood luncheon and posed for pictures with Pattinson last week, but Gere later admitted to E! News that he was clueless about Twilight.



"He was a perfectly nice guy, but I had no idea," Gere said. "I was getting calls from my wife [Carey Lowell] going, 'What are you doing with him? He's so cute, but what are you doing with him?'"

Gere went on to joke that his wife is far more knowledgeable about popular culture than he is these days.

"My wife is aware of these things [but] I don't know that she's a fan [of Twilight]," he explained

Gere's latest film Arbitrage has earned awards buzz amid solid critical praise.

The movie is the story of a billionaire hedge fund manager (Gere) whose life is thrown into turmoil by a bad financial decision.
