Tobago Church leaders boycott Elton John
Church leaders in Tobago have called for a boycott on an Elton John performance because of the singer's sexuality.

The Christian pastors have asked the island's politicians to ban the legendary singer from a gig planned for a jazz festival in Plymouth next month.

The group are apparently concerned that Elton John's lifestyle could have a "negative social impact" upon youngsters at the event.

One pastor told the BBC, "One has to be careful how this can create impressions on impressionable minds."

However, both the concert organisers and the House of Assembly have refused the request.

One of the organisers said that John was "coming as what he is - one of the world's greatest performers".

He went on, saying: "His band has performed in every country around the world. He is not coming here to preach about what lifestyle people should have."
