Stewart shortly after released a brief statement admitting to the affair and apologising to boyfriend Robert Pattinson and describing the fling with Sanders as a "momentary indiscretion."
The 22-year-old has remained relatively quiet about the incident since then, but in a new interview with Newsweek, she acknowledged the criticism she received from the public.
"It's not a terrible thing if you're either loved or hated," Stewart is quoted as saying. "But honestly, I don't care, 'cause it doesn't keep me from doing my s**t.
"And I apologise to everyone for making them so angry. It was not my intention."
Stewart currently stars in the drama On the Road opposite Garret Hedlund and Kirsten Dunst.
