Gromit steps into HMV logo role

Published Sunday, Apr 1 2007, 23:40 BST | By Dave West
Gromit will become part of the famous logo of music firm HMV, it has been announced.

The company has been known for years for the iconic image based on 1898 painting His Master's Voice. It shows Nipper the dog listening to a gramophone.

Now the dog, one half of Aardman legends Wallace and Gromit, is to take the role of the pet in the logo. The new image will be used for three months as part of a children's DVD promotion.

Nick Park, creator of Gromit at Aardman Animation, commented: "It's a great honour to be stepping in the same paw prints as an icon as big as Nipper. Gromit will look after 'the seat' for as long as Nipper allows."

Graham Sim, HMV marketing director, added: "I can't imagine that we would have entrusted our brand to anyone other than Aardman, who, in Wallace and Gromit, have created a much-loved British institution. We're delighted that Gromit has agreed to stand in for Nipper on this one occasion."
