Sheen discussed his former love of collecting vintage weapons and target practice, but is now in favour of tighter gun control in the wake of the recent school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

"If anybody from the NRA wants to look any of those parents in the eyes from that school and tell them that guns are still necessary, then I urge them to, and see how that goes," the actor said in preview footage from his interview.

"We're not supposed to bury our children."

Sheen also confirmed that he no longer owns any guns after being charged in a domestic dispute.

"I'm OK with it. I have a security team that is pretty well armed," he said.

Morgan has attracted media attention as a result of his own desire for stricter gun control in the US, and even became the subject of a petition from the pro-gun lobby to deport him from the country for his views.

The White House recently defended Morgan's right to free speech in a response to the petition.

Piers Morgan Tonight airs weeknights at 9 pm ET on CNN.
