Prince William has split from his long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton.
The heir to the throne met the 25-year-old fashion intern while they were studying at the University of St Andrews in 2001. Their relationship is believed to have begun in December 2003.
The Sun reports that the pair made the decision to separate while skiing in Zermatt, Switzerland last month.
A source told the newspaper: "This is a tragic love story about two people who met five years too early. It's a story of a young guy who doesn't want to settle down and a girl who needs more commitment from her man.
"They were a normal couple who wanted different things...Had they met a few years later, who knows what might have happened? They're the right people for each other - it's just the wrong time."
Neither Middleton nor Clarence House - the Prince's official residence - have commented on the split.
