Sir Bob Geldof has launched a project to record the life of the human race.
The musician and campaigner has begun a three year project, titled the Dictionary of Man, to “trace every society” on the planet.
The first element will be a website where anyone can post their pictures, art, music, films and stories related to their lives.
A BBC show will also be made from the material - an eight-part series called The Human Planet, as a spin-off from Planet Earth.
Sir Bob will also create a set of huge encyclopedia-style books which have been compared to creating a 21st century Domesday Book.
“It will be like the Encyclopedia Humanica," he told The Sun. “An A to Z of humanity that everyone on earth can get involved in.”
A central part of the project is recording the existence of tribes across the world. Sir Bob hopes it will protect languages that are being lost.
