Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber has overtaken Sir Paul McCartney to become the richest musician in Britain.

The musical mogul's wealth has been boosted by the success of his BBC reality TV show How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria, which helped to turn his West End revival of The Sound of Music into a sell-out hit.

Sir Paul McCartney's fortune is estimated at £725 million. It has been reduced from last year's valuation of £825 million to allow for the eight-figure divorce settlement he is expected to grant his estranged wife Heather Mills.

Other stars featured on the Sunday Times Rich List List of British Music Millionaires include Madonna, Sir Elton John, Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards.
