Bryan Ferry has been dropped as the face of Marks & Spencer's menswear range.

The move comes after the Roxy Music star sparked outrage by telling a German newspaper that he admired the aesthetics of Nazi Germany.

Although an M&S representative refused to confirm that Ferry had been dropped, she told the Independent on Sunday that "no further executions are planned" of the Ferry campaign.

Ferry's manager Stephen Howard said: "Technically he fulfilled the obligations of the contract when he did the last photoshoot. It was a successful association for both parties."

Ferry was heavily criticised earlier this year when he told the Welt Am Sonntag: "My God, the Nazis knew how to present themselves. Leni Riefenstahl's movies and Albert Speer's buildings and the mass parades and the flags - just amazing. Really beautiful."

He was later forced to apologise for his comments.
