Chris Tarrant has been bailed after being arrested on suspicion of assault.
The Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? presenter is alleged to have thrown a fork and spoon wrapped in a napkin at a fellow diner in an Indian restaurant.
He was arrested 30 minutes after leaving the MemSaab curry house in Nottingham last night. He was interviewed under caution and bailed to reappear for further questioning in June.
A spokesman for Tarrant told Sky TV that the 60-year-old TV host had merely "enjoyed some banter" with a young couple who were also dining at the restaurant.
A spokesman for Nottinghamshire police said: "Shortly after 10pm on Sunday a 999 call was made from a man claiming to have been injured following an incident with another diner at the MemSaab Restaurant in Maid Marian Way, Nottingham.
"Police officers attended and a short time afterwards a 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and taken into custody for questioning. The man has been bailed to a date in June pending further inquiries."
