In an interview with Entertainment Tonight this week, Sheen was asked directly if he fears for Lohan.

"You have to," he answered. "But I think she seems a lot more focused now than she was five, six months ago."

Sheen continued: "There is a reason that I root for [her], because we fell in love with this little girl that was just an absolute genius and had this great light about her, and that's still there. You can't extinguish that.

"I root for her because when you're that talented, it just doesn't go away. Sometimes your appetites get in the way."

The Anger Management actor added that he continues to reach out to Lohan because he can sympathise with her struggles.

"I - not to insult her because I'm who I am and she is who she is - I got things a little bit quicker or had better opportunities, better timing," Sheen said.

"They let me off the hook a lot sooner than they seem to want to do with her."

Lohan filmed her scenes for Anger Management this week. Initial reports suggested Lohan was well-behaved on her first filming day, but allegedly held up production for several hours on day two.

She is expected to begin a court-ordered rehab stint in May, as part of a plea agreement stemming from a probation violation in her 2011 jewellery theft case.
