The man who crashed the Grammy Awards stage earlier this year faces up to six months in jail.

Adele, Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez were on stage when Ukrainian TV presenter Vitalii Sediuk appeared alongside the 'Skyfall' singer.

"The safety and protection of both participants and attendees of major events held in this city is a priority of my office," said Los Angeles City Attorney Carmen Trutanich in a statement.

"In this age of heightened security, any person who intentionally crosses that line and acts in an irresponsible manner will be held accountable for his or her actions."

Sediuk was charged with one count of wilfully leaving a spectator area and entering a performance area and one count of interfering and delaying programme participants.

The charges brought against him could bring a maximum sentence of six months in jail, along with a $1,000 fine for each count.

The court date has been scheduled for May 31, 2013, in Department 82 of the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Sediuk made headlines after Adele was presented with the award for best pop solo performance.

"It's such an honour to receive this award," Sediuk said, adding, "I love you, Adele." Lopez was then seen taking him off stage.

More recently, Sediuk appeared at the Academy Awards wearing a replica of Bjork's swan dress and carrying a basket full of souvenir Oscars.

Police and security teams were reportedly handed a printout of his face in preparation for a possible stunt, having already sent him a legal letter stating he would be arrested if he attempted anything similar.

Sediuk has taken part in several viral pranks, including an incident where he tried to kiss Will Smith at a Men in Black 3 premiere in Moscow and was slapped away by the actor.

He recently pleaded for Adele's support in order to avoid receiving jail time.
