Marcus Collins, 'Hollyoaks' stars break skydiving world record

By
Marcus Collins, Beth Tweddle and a host of Hollyoaks stars are among the celebrities who have jumped out of a plane for a charity skydive.

The X Factor and Dancing on Ice stars were joined by Jazmine Franks (Esther Bloom), Tom Scurr (Barney Harper-McBride) and Kelly-Marie Stewart (Hayley Ramsey) in order to break the Guinness World Record for the most tandem skydives in a 24-hour period on Friday (September 20).

The stars were among 187 pairs who successfully jumped and landed at six airfields across the country, allowing organisers Skyline and Do It For Charity to break their own record, set in 2012, of 160 skydives.

Franks jumped in support of BeatBullying, who she "worked closely with" during her character's recent troubling Hollyoaks storyline.

"I realised how much work the charity do for children and young adults who have been or are being bullied," she explained. "I wanted to take part in something that I can remember for the rest of my life and skydiving definitely ticks that box.

"The feeling of jumping out of that plane was incredible. The second the parachute opens, it's so peaceful up there."

Olympic gymnast Tweddle added: "Since London 2012, I've taken on some crazy challenges; I tried wing-walking and then learnt to skate for ITV's Dancing on Ice.

"When I was asked if I wanted to do a charity skydive it seemed like a great idea but I'm not sure what I'll be thinking when I'm standing on the edge of an open door getting ready to jump! I'm taking part to raise money for Alder Hey Children's Hospital, which is a fantastic cause and makes it all worthwhile."

Afterwards, Tweddle described the skydive as "absolutely amazing" and commented that "everybody should try it".
