The singer was found asleep at the wheel of his Mercedes in north London in October.
He admitted the offence at Brent Magistrates Court in May and a hearing at the court on Wednesday heard further details.
Prosecutor Andrew Torrington told the court Michael's blood contained a therapeutic quantity of an anti-depressant and illegal drug GHB as well as cannabis.
Michael Grieve, representing Michael, said the singer maintains his drowsiness was caused by the prescription drugs. He also told the court it was accepted that GHB, a class C substance, could be found in people's systems because of other, non-illegal, drugs.
However, Grieve accepted that the level of Michael's unfitness could be viewed as high.
District Judge Katherine Marshall said it would be how unfit he was, not what caused the condition, that would determine the singer's sentence.
She fixed sentencing for June 8 after deciding that expert witnesses were no longer needed.
