Piers Morgan: 'I'm bigger than the Beckhams'

Former newspaper editor Piers Morgan has claimed that he is "more famous than the Beckhams" in Hollywood.

The journalist, who was fired from The Mirror in 2004 after publishing fake photographs of British army personnel abusing Iraqi prisoners, has won stateside fame for his role as a panellist on US TV talent hunt America's Got Talent.

Morgan will also appear on the UK version of America's Got Talent - Britain's Got Talent - which starts on ITV1 on Saturday.

He said: "I do tend to posh it up a bit in the States. They see me as a James Bond character. I might even start using my full, double barrel name, which is actually Piers Pughe-Morgan.

"I rather like being recognised. In fact I am the perfect celebrity. I don't mind being harassed or groped. People literally scream at me in the streets. It's mild hysteria. They shout: 'Oh My God, it's Piers'. Curiously in Hollywood I'm a lot more famous than the Beckhams."
