Paris Hilton is released from jail

Paris Hilton has been released from jail after serving just three days of her 23-day prison sentence.

Officials at the Century Regional Detention Centre in Lynwood, California made the decision in consultation with doctors, but refused to discuss whether a medical condition prompted Hilton's release.

The celebrity heiress will be kept under house arrest for another 40 days. She will be required to wear an electronic tag at all times.

She began her sentence for violating her probation for a drink-driving conviction on Sunday.
