McManus to star in disco pantomime

Pop Idol champion Michelle McManus will make her comeback in a pantomime version of the nativity story.

The 27-year-old singer will take on the role of Mary in Discotivity, a new pantomime which aims to tell the story of the birth of Jesus to a disco soundtrack.

The production will debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, before relocating to London's Arts Theatre for a West End run in December.

McManus said: "People may be surprised that I've chosen to play this role, but I loved the script and I've always wanted to perform at the Edinburgh Fringe. Also, as an aspiring actress, I felt this was a great challenge and would be a lot of fun as well."
