Veggie group praises Ramsay slaughter

Animal protection group PETA has admitted there is an upside to Gordon Ramsay's slaughtering lambs on television.

It says watching the scenes, in which two animals were stunned with 200 volts of electricity then hung up to have their throats cut, would have turned some viewers off meat eating.

The episode of The F-Word showed blood gushing from the animals before they twitched from nerves as they hung dead.

PETA said several people had called since the programme on Tuesday night to ask for vegetarian "starter packs".

A spokesman explained: "Ramsay's F-Word depicted a grossly sanitised version of the horrors routinely faced by millions of lambs every year before they reach the dinner plate.

"But the death of these animals have not been completely in vain since the distressing viewing will have turned many compassionate people vegetarian."

Channel 4 had to broadcast a warning before the last part of the show which advised: "There will be scenes of animal slaughter which some viewers may find offensive."
