Muppets creator Jim Henson's family has donated puppets to the Atlanta Centre For Puppetry Arts.

The museum will display an estimated 700 separate pieces in the new Henson wing which is scheduled to open in 2012.

The Kermit The Frog puppet is already on display at the museum with other famous puppets from the show being rotated until the new wing opens.

Henson, who died in 1990, officially opened the museum in 1978.

His daughter Cheryl Henson told the BBC that there was "no better place to celebrate" her dad's work.

The museum's founder, Vince Anthony said: "Many exhibits can only present a small portion of what Jim created and accomplished in his life time.

"What makes the Centre unique is that we can become a living, breathing, evolving representation of Jim Henson's legacy."
