Stars were invited to Blair's goodbyes

Charlotte Church, Vernon Kay, Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan were among Tony Blair's last guests at Chequers, it has been revealed.

The details of who he entertained in his last months as Prime Minister were released on Thursday. It has been suggested he organised a number of events as a "goodbye tour".

MPs originally requested the list three months ago to see if anyone involving in Labour Party fundraising was involved.

But they were surprised to see the time Blair had spent on goodbye meals for celebrities. Guests also included Church's partner Gavin Henson, Lorraine Kelly and radio host Chris Evans.

Other documents released showed that California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who met with Blair several times, gave him an iPod as a gift.

Liberal Democrat MP Norman Lamb commented: "Many names on this list reveal the frivolity and celebrity-obsessed nature of the Blair administration."

Referring to the delay before the guest list's release, he added: "For reasons that defy rational explanation the Government has been treating the fact that Tony Blair had drinks with Vernon Kaye and Charlotte Church as state secrets."
