Richie sentenced to 4 days in jail

Nicole Richie was sentenced to four days in jail and placed on three years' probation yesterday.

The Simple Life star pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of drugs and to a previous DUI conviction, at the Los Angeles Superior Court on Friday morning.

Richie must report to jail to serve her time before September 28. She has also been ordered to pay a $2,048 fine and complete a 21-day alcohol education course.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Commissioner Steve Lubell warned Nicole to carefully adhere to the terms of her probation: "If you violate the terms of probation, you can and will go to county jail."

The 25-year-old reality TV star was stopped by police in December last year when she was spotted driving the wrong way on a California highway. At the time, she admitted to officers that she had smoked marijuana and taken painkiller Vicodin before driving.
