Chris Langham is on suicide watch in jail after he was found guilty of downloading child pornography.
The Thick of It star was convicted at Maidstone Crown Court on 15 counts of making indecent images of children but was found not guilty of charges of indecently assaulting an underage girl and other serious sexual offences.
The 58-year-old had denied all the charges, claiming that he had looked at the pictures as research for a role as a paedophile in BBC comedy Help.
Langham, from Kent, could face 10 years in jail after he is sentenced on September 14.
He was remanded in custody to Elmley Prison on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent, but officials fear for his life after he told the jury in his trial that he "wanted to die".
The actor had been accused by a woman whom he used to teach acting of taking her virginity when she was 14.
