Rupert Everett has shocked viewers by making an "inappropriate" remark live on BBC Breakfast.
The My Best Friend's Wedding actor was promoting his autobiography on the show when he began to reminisce about visiting provincial cinemas as a child.
After describing the theatres as "dark and sexy", the 48-year-old mentioned a sexual activity which could take place in the back row.
Presenters Charlie Stayt and Suzanna Reid quickly moved away from the subject, reminding him that the interview was intended for a breakfast time audience.
Three people called the BBC to complain about the remark, which was broadcast live at 9.09am.
A spokeswoman said: "Rupert did make an inappropriate comment which sometimes happens on live broadcasts when we have no control over what our guests say."
She added: "The rest of the interview was fine."
