Mel B's mum says she has made "big mistake"

Mel B's mother has claimed that the Spice Girl has made a "big mistake" by marrying movie producer Stephen Belafonte.

The singer tied the knot with Stephen in a secret Las Vegas ceremony on June 6, but the news was only confirmed to the press last week. Yesterday, it was reported that Mel did not even tell her mother Andrea about the wedding.

Now Andrea has claimed that Mel was feeling vulnerable after being treated badly by ex-boyfriend Eddie Murphy, who is the father of her daughter Angel Iris, and believes that this is the reason why she has married so quickly.

"I was with Mel for a month before Angel was born and stayed with her for two months afterwards. She was so lonely, at rock bottom," Andrea told the Sunday Mirror. "She had post-natal depression and was vulnerable. All that with Eddie Murphy really knocked her for six, but you can't discuss it with her. She just can't deal with it. She's trying to block it out."

Reports that Mel was dating Stephen - who produced 2005 comedy Thank You For Smoking - first hit the press in May.

"I think she's made a big mistake," Andrea continued. "How can you fall in love that quick? I'm desperate to speak to her. I feel like jumping on a plane and flying out to her, I'm so worried. I've read that he's got a conviction for assaulting his ex girlfriend and it really worries me."
