Gyllenhaal to star in Broadway drama?

Jake Gyllenhaal has been linked to a Broadway production of political drama Farragut North, directed by Closer's Mike Nichols.

The Brokeback Mountain actor would play "an idealistic young press secretary who works for a Howard Dean-like presidential contender" if he takes up the role.

Nichols is taking over as director from James Lapine when the production starts next year.

According to reports Matt Damon and George Clooney have purchased the film rights to Farragut North.
