JK Rowling turning to crime writing?
Published Monday, Aug 20 2007, 09:56 BST | By Kimberley Dadds
JK Rowling has decided to take a complete departure from the Harry Potter franchise of books and has started to write drafts for crime novels instead.
The author published the seventh and final book about the boy wizard, The Deathly Hallows, last month.
She was recently spotted working on a detective plot by crime writer Ian Rankin's wife Miranda in an Edinburgh cafe where she used to write the Potter stories.
Rowling has not revealed what type of books she will be penning next, but she has decided to choose a different route.
On her website she said: "I want to write something completely different. I can take my time.
"And the idea of just wandering off to a cafe with a notebook and writing and seeing where it takes me for a while is just bliss. I'll do what I did with Harry - write what I really want to write."
