Bette Midler could be facing a fine after she cut down over 200 trees surrounding her property in Kauai, Hawaii and built a road without permission.

The Stepford Wives actress had 230 trees removed and built a graded road without the relevant permits over land in a zone for conservation use.

The staff of the Board of Land and Natural Resources at the state of Hawaii has recommended a fine of €4,780 for the moves.

Midler's lawyer, Max Graham said she was unaware that permits would be needed and she would be happy to pay any fines and replant trees if requested.
