The nominees for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe's Intelligent Finance Comedy Awards have been announced.
The prestigious prize, formerly known as the Perrier Awards, will be presented on Saturday by Christian Slater.
Nica Burns, the veteran director of the awards, commented as the shortlist was announced: "What I think is so great about this year's shortlist is the mixture of youth and experience. Members of the public buy tickets on the basis of the nominations and there really is something here for everyone."
He said of the nominees: "They've sat down and written absolutely cracking shows. They've really taken a large step forward in terms of their work."
The nominees are: Brendon Burns with So I Suppose This Is Offensive Now, Andrew Maxwell's Waxin', Andrew Lawrence's show Social Leprosy For Beginners & Improvers, Ivan Brackenbury's Hospital Radio Roadshow and sketch show Pappy's Fun Club.
Rupert Adams, awards spokesman, commented: "We have heard great things about both Andrew Maxwell and Brendon Burns, but on the strength of the buzz surrounding his show, Brendon is our favourite."
