Coogan hits back at Love accusations

Steve Coogan has fired back at Courtney Love's claim that his party lifestyle contributed to Owen Wilson's alleged drug problems and suicide attempt.

The comedian, 41, described the accusations as “unfounded" and said he intends to take legal advice.

Wilson was rushed to an LA hospital on Sunday after allegedly slashing his wrists and taking an overdose of illegal drugs. Subsequent reports have suggested he was hooked on heroin and cocaine.

Love, who had a two-week affair with Coogan in 2005, told US magazine that his friendship with Wilson is partly to blame for the actor's rumoured addictions.

She said: “Under normal circumstances I wouldn’t comment but I care too much about Owen. I went through it with Steve. I was just out of rehab, and he was right there with the drugs. I tried to warn Owen. I tried to warn his friends.”

A spokeswoman for Coogan said: “These accusations are unfounded, unhelpful and hurtful to all concerned. We are taking legal advice.”
