Foster character inspires ABC show

Jodie Foster's character in Spike Lee's film Inside Man has inspired the plot for a new drama to be shown on US network ABC.

The Fixer centres around a high-powered female PR executive in New York, who secretly solves problems for the city's elite figures.

Foster played the part of Madeleine White, a power-broker, in last year's thriller movie alongside Denzel Washington and Clive Owen.

Russell Gewirtz, who created the pilot and was the screenwriter for Inside Man, said: "What she does is much more complicated than PR, or, as she calls it, getting your client to wear the right colour lipstick. PR in her case stands for private relations.

"It's not a continuation of the story in Inside Man.

"Jodie's character is not fleshed out, you don't know anything about her. This show is about a very specific character -- a single mother who is very clever, influential and powerful."

Gewirtz has also finished writing a script for the sequel and has signed up the three lead characters to return to the Spike Lee movie.
