Jude Law has signed up to star in the title role of Hamlet in London's West End and will be directed by Kenneth Branagh.

The Holiday actor will take to the stage in 2009 as part of a one-year Donmar Warehouse season at the Wyndham's Theatre.

Branagh, who will also take part in the season by acting in a version of Chekhov's Ivanov, has also directed Law in a remake of the Michael Caine film, Sleuth.

The production will follow the Donmar Warehouse in-production of Othello, starring Ewan McGregor.

Law last appeared on the London stage as Doctor Faustus at the Young Vic in 2002.
