Snoop Dogg has been ordered to carry out 160 hours of community service after he pleaded guilty to one count of possessing a dangerous weapon.
The rapper was also given three years' probation and told to make a £5,000 charitable donation by the court in Santa Ana, California.
He was arrested last year after security guards found a collapsible baton in his computer bag at the John Wayne Airport in Orange County.
Snoop Dogg, real name Calvin Broadus, claimed that the baton was to be used as a prop in a music video he was due to film in New York, but authorities told him it was considered a dangerous weapon.
Lawyer Donald Etra said that the sentence could be reduced to a misdemeanour after one year if Broadus does not break the law.
It is the second violation for the hip-hop star this year, after police found a gun at his home when they were searching it on suspicion of his transporting marijuana.
He pleaded no contest to both gun and marijuana charges in April, agreeing to 800 hours of community service and a five year probation period.
