Ricky Tomlinson has been discussing his feelings ahead of a quadruple heart bypass operation next month.
The comedian needs the surgery because doctors discovered his arteries are severely blocked.
"I am apprehensive, of course I am," he revealed. "But I don't really have any choice. I've been told I've got to get in and have it done and that's that.
"If it's going to give me five or six years' extra life or a better quality of life then I've got to take it, haven't I?"
Tomlinson said he was expecting a long stay at Broadgreen Hospital in Liverpool: "The hospital has got a great reputation and I've met the surgeon, who has explained everything."
He told the Daily Mirror: "So it's five hours on the operating table and then you're in for a week to 10 days."
