Letterman teases Hilton on chat show

David Letterman has teased Paris Hilton about her time in jail during an interview on his US chat show.

Hilton was a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman to chat about her new perfume launch, but the host focused on the Simple Life star's stint in jail rather than her new fragrance.

Letterman asked Hilton about the food in jail and asked the US socialite whether she knew why she had been placed in the institution.

The TV personality asked: "What is it you did? Do you know what you did?" When Paris didn't reply, the host laughed and shook his head.

Hilton commented: "I’ve moved on with my life so I don’t really want to talk about it anymore."

At one point an audience member called out: "I love you, Paris!", to which Letterman replied: “Is that somebody you met in jail?"

Responding to Letterman's comments, Hilton said: "Now you’re making me sad I came because you’re hurting my feelings."
