Live Earth organiser Al Gore has been tipped to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

The former US vice-president has been nominated for his efforts to raise public awareness of global warming.

Ex-Norwegian environment minister Borerge Brende, who nominated Gore, said: "A prerequisite for winning the Nobel Peace Prize is making a difference and Al Gore has made a difference."

The 59-year-old presented Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth and organised the Live Earth benefit concerts in July.

He was nominated for the Nobel prize jointly with Canadian Inuit activist Sheila Watt-Cloutier, who has campaigned about the effect of global warming on the Arctic population.

The winner will be announced in Oslo on Friday and will receive £750,000 in prize money.
