Michael Douglas' son Cameron has been ordered to stand trial, charged with possessing cocaine.
The 28-year-old and friend Christopher Lane, 30, were charged with possession of a controlled substance and a hypodermic needle during a pre-trial hearing in California. Douglas was also charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputy James McKarrell testified that he and another officer found the two men parked in a BMW near a motel on July 22. He claimed that he spotted "really fresh" blood on Douglas’ hand and smeared blood on his arm, and that he then discovered a syringe on the floor containing liquid cocaine.
Lane allegedly admitted to owning the syringe and both men were subsequently arrested.
However, Douglas' attorney Juan Huerta argued that McKarrell had failed to do his job by not giving the pair a sobriety test at the time.
Douglas starred with Michael and grandfather Kirk Douglas in 2003 film It Runs In The Family. He also appeared in Jackie Chan movie Mr. Nice Guy and National Lampoon's Adam and Eve.
Both Douglas and Lane will appear in court on November 16.
